Forest Fuels and Species Conservation

In 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the US Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the and numerous Commercial Forest Landowners with lands in California within the range of the California Spotted Owl, Northern Spotted Owl, and Pacific Fisher. The purpose of the MOU agreement is to coordinate forest fuels reduction and species conservation issues. Several more members have signed on since that time, including the Bureau of Land Management and the National Wildlife Foundation.

Parties to the MOU agreed to share map-based information on the location of fuel reduction projects and the general objectives of fuel reduction activities. We are pleased to provide this information to the public to be used for fuels reduction projects and species conservation planning.
