Definitions:

State Responsibility Area (SRA): The area designated by the State Board of Forestry on which the state assumes financial responsibility for protecting natural resources from damage by fire.

CDF Direct Protection Area (CDF DPA): The area protected by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's own fire protection force.

Local Zone: Area in which there is no State Responsibility Area. In general, this is valley floor and desert land. Fire protection in local zone is provided by local government agencies; such as, cities, counties, and fire districts, or by the CDF under contract to local governments.
