The 2010 Forest and Range Assessment: Themes and Subthemes
California's 2010 Assessment is organized around three main themes, which in turn are divided into 11 subthemes. These themes and subthemes are closely drawn from the USDA Forest Service's "Redesign Program

- 1. Conserve Working Forest and Range Landscapes
Conserving and managing working forest and range landscapes for multiple values and uses.
- 2. Protect Forests and Rangelands from Harm
Protect forests and rangelands from threats, including catastrophic fire and storms, flooding, insect or disease outbreak and invasive species.
- 3. Enhance Public Benefits from Trees, Forests and Rangelands
Including air and water quality, soil conservation, biological diversity, carbon storage and forest products, forestry-related jobs, production of renewable energy and wildlife.
